Exhibit photos from Early Evanston:
From Frontier Town to Sophisticated Suburb.

This exhibit explored Evanston from the earliest days until the mid 1890s. It focused on the collection's areas of concentration, which were organized somewhat chronologically.
The exhibit began with the Native American presence in this area, continuing through Grosse Point and Ridgeville: the names for this area before it was called Evanston. The exhibit also explored early settlers, including John Evans (for whom Evanston was named), and other prominent early citizens, as well as Northwestern University and its importance to Evanston. The Civil War section dealt with both the effects of the Civil War on Evanston and Evanston's soldiers. Early businesses, churches and schools, public utilities and services, were also discussed in the exhibit.
