No room speaks more powerfully of the grandness of the house than the Great Hall. Aptly named, the two-story space, with its generous use of oak stained mahogany, complimentary earth toned paint colors, and the exceptional staircase, set the tone of elegance pervasive throughout the house. The ceiling of the hall is embellished with molded plaster in the shape of flowers, which are individually painted. The high quality of workmanship seen throughout the house is especially visible in the Great Hall. At the time the house was built, there were many European craftsmen living in the United States who were recent immigrants; it is likely that some of these talented workers would have been used for portions of the house’s construction.
